Seminar: Modelling and Experimenting with Social Norms
Lectures and seminars
Dr Giulia Andrighetto, Institute of Cognitive Sciences and Technologies, will present her work on the role of social norms in promoting social order.
Lives of human beings are largely governed by social norms, rules or principles that, independently from legal institutions, prescribe what we ought or ought not to do. Social norms regulate almost every aspect of our social life, from the act of leaving tips in restaurants to how we greet each other. They are also central in resolving social dilemmas of different natures, like for example those related to pollution, conservation of natural resources, or participation and contribution to public affairs.
Dr Giulia Andrighetto will present her work on the role of social norms in promoting social order and on the effect of punishment in enforcing the decision to comply with them.
The seminar will be held in English, is free of charge and open for everyone.
