Meet the Global Swede of the year

May 24, 2017 | Education Student Global

Soumya Ahuja, exchange student from WeSchool in Bangalore, India, has been awarded the title Mälardalen University Global Swede for 2017. As Global Swede Soumya will act as ambassador for Sweden, MDH and higher education, first and foremost in her home country India, and later on where the future and career takes her.

How do you feel about receiving this award?

I am greatly humbled and honored to be receiving this award. I would like to offer my sincerest gratitude to Mälardalen University as well as The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Sweden.
I strongly believe that cross cultural education can transform a person holistically by broadening their vision towards multiple perspectives. Having got this opportunity to be an ambassador, I would like to promote and strengthen the relationship we share not only as educational systems but also as two countries to be able to contribute to a culturally boundary less and indeed a better world.

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself, who is Soumya and how come you’ve ended up in MDH?

I am an exchange student for a year, the only one representing WeSchool, Bangalore, India. I have completed my bachelors in Business Administration with specialization in both marketing and human resource management. I am currently pursuing my Masters in Business Innovation and Design. MDH, known for its innovation and creativity was just the perfect match for my keen interest in both the fields, i.e. Business and Design.

Thinking out of the box is something I truly believe in and has always helped me to make any learning experience more meaningful and fruitful. I have always been passionate about new learnings and experiences. Talking about sports, I have been involved greatly in trekking, hiking and running. In my free time I usually like to play table tennis, badminton or just read in peace.

What will you be doing in five years and where will you be geographically?

Stepping out of your comfort zone is not always easy but one needs to experience it to understand the transformative benefits it has when it calls for using one's full potential and to be the best version of yourself. This excellent learning experience in Sweden, has most of all, given me an eye for varied cross cultural perspectives. In next 5 years, my main goal is to keep collaborating with new engagements in order to encounter new challenges so that it helps me grow, learn and enjoy.

Geographically, I would like to experience and learn more about Sweden as well as other countries. I also think it would be a great if I can work or research across countries to further gain from cross cultural learnings and global dynamics.
