New Campus Eskilstuna: six floors of meeting places

May 13, 2015 | On campus

The form and content of the different floors of the new campus in Eskilstuna are close to being settled now. – The floors will offer many good and natural meeting places, says project manager Anna Gulyas.

On the ground floor, there will be the Student Centre and the University Library, representing core elements of the new building. The entrance from Drottninggatan will lead to a cafeteria and restaurant, which will also have an open-air section. The large auditoria and IDT’s workshops will also be situated on that floor.

The building will be six floors high. On floors 1-3, there will lecture halls, study spaces, group rooms and meeting spaces, which is something both students and employees have expressed a demand for.

Floors 4-6 will contain offices as well as rooms for meetings and conferences. A large shared lunch room for employees is planned on floor 5. The student lunch areas will be situated on floors 1 and 2.

– Creating large shared lunch rooms for students and employees is a natural way to go. Everybody will be given the opportunity to meet over a lunch, regardless of the programme one is enrolled in or the School one is employed at, says Anna Gulyas.

Reference group to keep an eye on the requirements

Involved in the process of creating the new Campus Eskilstuna is a reference group whose task it is to make sure that the needs of employees and students are taken into account and met in an adequate manner. The group comprises representatives of both employees and students, and it discusses and provides feedback on suggested solutions.

The reference group has had its last meeting of the spring term, but will convene again after the start of the autumn term 2015.
