Opportunity to apply for an ABB scholarship

May 06, 2015 | Student Alumni

ABB is offering a scholarship to students at Mälardalen University (MDH). Every year, during a five-year period, a degree project or an idea related to robotics, and with a focus on technology and innovation, will be rewarded with ABB’s Robotics Scholarship worth 25 000 kronor per year. The scholarship is not linked to a specific programme and can be applied for by all MDH students, regardless of their specializations.

– With this scholarship, ABB wishes to honour the memory of Björn Weichbrodt, who initiated the company’s investment in robotics at the beginning of the 1970’s. His conception of robots was a great step forward in their development, and today’s robots are still to a large extent based on the same ideas. It is particularly pleasing that we can award this scholarship in cooperation with Mälardalen University, which has an important civil engineering program in robotics. Besides, both ABB and MDH are active in a region that is leading the development of automated production, says Dennis Helfridsson, head of ABB’s robotics division.

Last day to apply is 31 August

In the autumn this year, the first scholarship will be awarded by ABB’s robotics division, together with Mälardalen University. The winner will be chosen by a jury consisting of representatives from ABB and MDH. The last day to apply for the scholarship is 31 August.

Possible subject areas for the scholarship include, but are not limited to:

  • robot components such as gripping tools and sensors
  • programming
  • design
  • safety
  • profitability
  • new fields of applications, such as apps.
