On Tuesday 15 April, Vice-Chancellor Karin Röding and Bombardier's CEO Klas Wåhlberg signed a strategic cooperation agreement. Through deepened cooperation regarding research and education Bombardier and MDH will jointly strengthen Sweden's competitiveness.

Mälardalen University and Bombardier Transportation Sweden AB have signed a strategic cooperation agreement regarding research and education issues. The main points of the agreement deal with future skills supply, the employability of students and deepened research cooperation.

Growth for Sweden and labour market links for the students

- MDH is a university that works strategically with cooperation and it is crucial for us to have big strong friends in Swedish private enterprise too. Through this agreement we will be collecting the skills and research existing within our two organisations and binding together what academia can offer  private enterprise, based on the needs of privae enterprise as well as academia. In this way we can develop Sweden together and thereby boost the country's growth, at the same time as the students are offered labour market links in the form of placements and degree projects, says Karin Röding, Vice-Chancellor of Mälardalen University.

Continuation of longstanding cooperation

Bombardier and MDH  already have a number of research cooperation projects, and by this agreement new contact links and prerequisities will be created for more research projects, degree projects and placements. For a long time now MDH has been working towards adapting its courses and study programmes to the labour market to a greater extent, and in this development work Bombardier will be an important cooperation partner.

Agreement important to Bombardier

Bombardier is a global company with around 72,000 employees and with a strong base in the Mälardalen region. Growth in the region is expansive and CEO Klas Wåhlberg regards the deepened cooperation with MDH as strategically important for ensuring that Bombardier stands well equipped to succeed in recruiting the right skills in the future.

- For us as a hi-tech company with 2,000 employees in Mälardalen this agreement is important. At a time when regional integration, efficient transport and sustainable mobility is prioritised it also has great significance for Mälardalen as a region, says Klas Wåhlberg, CEO of Bombardier Transportation Sweden AB.

Agreement celebrated with cake and speeches

The agreement itself took place in MDH's Board Room in the presence of representatives from both Bombardier and MDH.

The signing of the agreement was celebrated afterwards in the Foyer with an official part, during which both Vice-Chancellor and CEO Klas Wåhlberg gave speeches. They also signed an enlarged version of the agreement.

There were quite a lot of people who had gathered in the Foyer and everyone was treated to cake and coffee.
